Working on performance. Labels will be a part of enemy scenes. They'll not be spawned with each hit, but rather shown/hidden. Also there will not be another timer spawn with each hit.
So each enemy will have a label, bullet hit explosion and timer to clean them from scene.
Working also on balancing the game. It's a challenge!:)

Neat game. Maybe, you should make a paralax effect for background stars and smokes from destroyed ships move towards player to make a feeling like you are flying fast, because now explosions just hold in the air. Also, I think that player's projectiles are too small, so it's not comfortable to shoot enemies as player's ship moves fast.
